Dr Michael Harwood
BVSc CertAVP MRCVS
Michael grew up in Newmarket, the centre of the UK racing industry. He conducted his veterinary training at Liverpool University Veterinary School and was always focussed on becoming an equine practitioner. He completed an equine externship in his final year, followed by starting his career in an equine internship and then a period in mixed practice.
Michael had his first taste of Australia in 2005 spending a number of years in equine hospitals in the Hawkesbury, Sunshine Coast and Hunter Valley. Michael returned to the UK to work in performance horse practice in the Southern Counties for three years before returning to Australia in 2011 and moving to Perth. He started Oldbury Equine Clinic at the beginning of 2014 wanting to provide a comprehensive equine veterinary service, which offered the options of full work ups both at the clinic and the client’s own facilities.
When not working Michael can be found spending time with his family, windsurfing one of the many WA wave breaks, assisting with Windsurfing Western Australia or occasionally participating in local polo chukkas.
Dr James Meyer
BSc(PV) DVM MANZCVS(ED) CertAVP(ED) MRCVS
James grew up in South Australia, and began riding horses at the age of three, working his way through hacking, dressage and eventing. He completed his veterinary degree in the Inaugural Class at the University of Adelaide. Spending his formative years at Goolwa District Pony Club, James is now an active member of Pony Club (instructor), FEI, Endurance, and the Equine Veterinarians Australia (EVA).
James frequently provides services for FEI events, as a Level 3 Official Veterinarian in Eventing, Jumping & Dressage, as well as being an AERA accredited Endurance veterinarian. James has seen clinical practice across SA & WA and received the Ben Cunneen & Alistair Rogers Award for Outstanding Service to the EVA & Industry, as well as the Pony Club Australia Gillian Rolton Alumni Award.
In 2021 James passed his Memberships in Equine Dentistry with the Australian & New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists, followed by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (Equine Dentistry) in 2025. These post-graduate qualifications demonstrate his dedication to the field of Equine Dentistry.
Dr Simone Deetman
BSc BVMS(Hons)
Simone completed her Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery at Murdoch University in 2006 and straight away relocated to Busselton to begin her veterinary career. Although she thoroughly enjoyed living and working in the beautiful South West, after several years, she moved back to Perth to combine veterinary work with her passion of horses and entered into sole equine practice. Simone uniquely enjoys all aspects of equine veterinary medicine and general practice.
Over the last 20 years Simone has been lucky enough to intermittently take time away from work to raise a family – life has never been busier than with 3 young kids! Simone’s interests outside of work all revolve around her love of being outdoors. From camping to hiking and bike riding, she loves spending time with her family and seeing all the great places WA has to offer.
Dr Liz Woodberry
BSc BVMS
Initially from the east coast, Liz has grown up with a passion for horses which has led her around the world and ultimately to Perth to study veterinary science. She graduated in 2007 and has been working in equine and small animal practice in the Perth area since. She has a passion for equine reproduction and particularly enjoys teaching the next generation of vets at Murdoch in their reproductive practical classes.
Outside of work Liz is sports mad and can be found playing hockey, touch football or hanging out with her 2 young daughters.
